Frequently Asked Questions (vanliga frågor)

How long is a non-EU driving license valid in Sweden?

A non-EU/EEA driving license is valid for exactly 1 year from the date you register in the Swedish population register (*folkbokföring*). After 12 months, you must obtain a Swedish *B-körkort* by completing all mandatory safety courses and passing the Trafikverket exams.

What are Riskettan and Risktvåan (Halkbana)?

They are mandatory safety training courses required for everyone taking a Swedish license. *Riskettan* (Risk 1) is a 3-hour theoretical seminar covering alcohol, drugs, fatigue, and distraction. *Risktvåan* (Risk 2 / Halkbana) is a 3-hour practical skid-pan driving course teaching vehicle control on ice and slippery roads.

Can I practice drive (*övningsköra*) with a friend or spouse in Sweden?

Yes, but both the student driver and the supervisor (*handledare*) must complete an approved 3-hour supervisor training course (*Introduktionsutbildning / Handledarutbildning*). The supervisor must be at least 24 years old and have held a valid EU driving license for at least 5 of the last 10 years.
